Autauga, Montgomery, Elmore Seniors, Inc (AMES) is a 501©3 formed in 2001 by Central Alabama Aging Consortium (CAAC), the Area Agency on Aging for Autauga, Elmore and Montgomery Counties. It’s purpose is to support programs and services for the benefit of senior citizens residing in the service area. AMES solicits, receives, and distributes funds for services to senior citizens.

Dementia Friendly Alabama
An initiative to create dementia friendly communities across Alabama so that those living with dementia, their caregivers, and care partners feel respected, supported, and included in every day community life. The Alabama Department of Senior Services awarded a grant to Central Alabama Aging Consortium to begin building dementia friendly communities in Autauga, Elmore, and Montgomery counties that can be replicated throughout the state.
Dementia Friendly Alabama has established several programs that promote dementia friendliness which include: mini grants distributed to Area Agencies on Aging across the state, business trainings, education for children and youth, first responder trainings, trainings for family caregivers and professionals, Memory Cafés, Memory Screenings, Virtual Dementia Tours, Dementia Resource Guides, social media/website, robotic pets, and tools to make life easier for the caregiver and/or person living with dementia. Dementia Friendly Alabama seeks to provide services, education, and resources so that people living with dementia can live and thrive in Alabama. Dementia Friendly Alabama fights for those who can’t remember!

The Panda Project
The PANDA Project (Providing Alzheimer’s n’ Dementia Assistance) is an initiative piloted and duplicated by Central Alabama Aging Consortium. The PANDA Project provides supportive services for People with Dementia (PWD), aging adults with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and Caregivers in Autauga, Elmore, and Montgomery counties at no cost to the consumer. The PANDA Project is made possible in part through a grant funded by the Administration for Community Living (ACL).
Robotic Pets
Robotic companion pets offer an alternative traditional pet therapy, and research shows them to have similar positive effects. Ageless Innovations’ Joy for All Companion Pets cats and dogs are designed with soft fur that feels real and sensors that respond to motion, touch, and sound, allowing them to react and interact. The cat purrs, meows, and moves its leg, ears, head, and torso in reaction to touch, much like an actual cat. The dog barks when spoken to, wags his tail, nuzzles, turns his head toward sound, and its heart beats when petted.
Food Bag Distribution
Food Bags include imperishable food items such as canned meats and vegetables, fruit, and soup. Boxed items such as macaroni and cheese, rice, oatmeal, and grits are also included. Each bag also includes snacks. Fresh fruit and potatoes are also purchased and given away with the food bags. The bags are for low-income senior citizens who need assistance with food. The contents of the food bags vary. AMES chooses locations for distribution and publicizes the events.
Incontinent Supplies Assistance
Incontinent supplies (Adult diapers, disposable underwear, bed pads) are given to those who are unable to afford to purchase the needed supplies. Many of these supplies are donated to the agency.
Medication Co-Pay Assistance
Medication Co-Pay Assistance – The Senior Rx-Program assists uninsured and underinsured individuals with obtaining medications at a reduced rate at no cost.
