USDA Farm to Families Food Box Program

Central Alabama Aging Consortium (CAAC) is partnering with the USDA, GA Foods, and the Alabama Department of Senior Services to provide boxes of food for those in need.  We will distribute a total of 560 food boxes on a first come/first served basis at each event.  There will be a limit of 1 box per car unless the driver is providing transportation for a senior citizen or a person with a disability who does not drive and who lives in a separate household.

 

Each box will contain 8 pieces of fresh fruit, 5 pounds of pre-cooked meat (chicken or pork), approximately 5 lbs. assorted fresh vegetables, 12 oz. of cheese, 1 lb. of butter, and the equivalent of one-half gallon of milk.

 

CAAC, GA Foods, and volunteers will be distributing the food boxes from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.  on the following dates at these locations:

Join Abbey with Dementia Friendly Alabama as we discuss the challenges and trials caregivers are facing amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.Dollar General will dedicate the first hour of each shopping day to only older shoppers.Every Wednesday, Target will dedicate the first hour of shopping for people who are older or people who are sick.Fresh Market grocery store has designated their first hour of shopping every day to that.Seniors can shop at Publix stores from 7-8 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesdays until further notice.
