Dementia Friendly Communities Expansion Mini-Grant:  Request For Proposal Released

Through funding provided by the Alabama Department of Senior Services, the Dementia Friendly Communities Initiative is happy to announce the release of the 2019 Request for Proposal with hopes of encouraging the submission of proposals for innovative programs that will help the Dementia Friendly Communities Initiative expand and grow throughout the state of Alabama.

The Dementia Friendly Communities Initiative is aimed at increasing awareness of the growing problem of dementia in Alabama by conducting activities and programs around the state that will assist in providing much needed information for caregivers and those suffering with dementia.  The goal of the program is to foster evidence-based dementia capable programs and interventions by engaging, seeding and supporting communities striving to become dementia friendly.

The ultimate goal is to generate Dementia Friendly Communities that highlight the importance of allowing those with dementia to remain active within their communities.  A secondary goal is to demonstrate how effective small investments in dementia friendliness can be and to develop models with impact data to show to other communities said effectiveness, including potential funding sources elsewhere in the state.
